May 14, 1980, Kalamazoo Gazette “Disaster!” edition

Kalamazoo Gazette staffers worked through the night to publish the first “extra” edition of the newspaper since the announcement of the end of World War II. Demand for the special edition was so great that the original run of 15,000 papers continued until over 140,000 were distributed.

Kalamazoo Gazette “Recovery” edition one-year anniversary, May 13, 1981

On the one-year anniversary of the deadly tornado, the Kalamazoo Gazette released a “recovery” special edition of the newspaper, recapping the progress that had been made in the city’s rebuilding efforts and following up with residents and businesses hardest hit by the storm.
